How to remove gray box at bottom of blog (updated Aug. 2012)

If you are using the Picture Window Template you will notice a gray box at the bottom of your blog.  I will show you a quick tutorial on how to remove that box!  If you have not seen our tutorial on how to remove the transparent background behind your posts and sidebars, check it out here!

1.) You will want to go back to your ‘Template’ page and click on ‘Edit HTML’ and ‘Proceed’.
2.) Hit Ctl F to bring up the search box again.  Enter in “footer.background“.  It will bring you to the code that looks like this:
<Variable name="footer.background" description="Footer Background" type="background"default=”transparent url(http://www.blogblog.com/1kt/transparent/black50.png) repeat scroll top left” value=”transparent url(http://www.blogblog.com/1kt/transparent/black50.png) repeat scroll top left”/>

You will want to delete the url that is between the brackets ( ).  Leave the brackets.  It will now look like this:

Preview and if everything looks good go ahead and save! Your gray box at the bottom of your blog is now gone:)!
-You will notice there is still a white box behind every post.  To remove the white box that is behind all your posts, follow this tutorial.
-To remove the border that is around all your posts, follow this tutorial.
-To adjust the width of your posts and sidebars so they don’t hang off the center part of your background, follow this tutorial.

  2. First, thanks for the tutorial – worked as advertised.

    I’m wondering if you might have a suggestion on how to deal with a little problem on my test blog. Just inside the outer brown border is a transparent band (15px or so) that I would like to delete (the problem transparent area is wider at the bottom where I removed the grey box with your suggested code changes). Any suggestion?

    Thanks

    • Hi Steve, it looks like you are using the picture window template and it will always have that transparent box behind you entire center post/sidebar area. You have added the post background color to be white and the other areas to be the cream color. I think if you go to your ‘template designer’ and ‘adjust widths’ and make your areas a little wider then it might hide that transparent border. Try it and let me know:) –Becky

  3. Becky – The “adjust widths” sliders under “customize doesn’t have any affect on that transparent band (background). Guess I will try playing with the template HTML and see if I can find something to adjust that will make it go away.

      • Muyiwa, this tutorial will only work if you are using the picture window template. It looks like you have a different template on your blog:) –Becky
