How to get your Minima template back (Aug. 2012)

****As of October 2012 this tutorial will not work.  Blogger has removed the option for people to change their templates back to Minima.  We will be doing more research and keep you posted to see if we can find another way around it!! XOXO-Becky and Ashley TCBOTB****

If you are newer to blogging you may not have seen the Minima template.  For those of us who have been blogging for ages loved the Minima template.   It took me awhile to get use to the new blogger template designer, but now I really like it!  If you are not happy with it I will show you how to get your Minima template back!

This is what my template looked like with the Picture Window Template.  The banner is off to the left a bit (you can fix that with this tutorial) and you can see the opaque white box behind my posts (you can remove that box with this tutorial).  At the end of the tutorial I will show you how my blog looks with the Minima template.

1).  To get started you will need to click on the image in your upper right hand corner for ‘Blogger options’.  Then select ‘Old Blogger interface’.

2.)  Next click on your ‘Design’ tab and then ‘Edit HTML’.

3.)  Scroll down to the bottom of your HTML page and you will see under Old Templates and option ‘Select Layout Template’.  Click there.

4.) Choose ‘Minima’ and then ‘Save Template’.

5.)  The last step is to click ‘Try the updated Blogger Interface’.

You can see below what my blog now looks like with the minima template.  The banner is off centered, there is a border around my banner (tutorial on how to remove those border lines around banner HERE), my font color needs to be changed and I would like to adjust the width of my main post column.  This is the tricky part with the minima template. You need to be familiar with the html to make these changes…but if you are then it is super easy:)!! If you are not happy with your minima template changes, then you can always go back to your Picture Window template!  Leave a comment and let us know if you like how your blog turned out!

  1. I have been out of the blogging scene for a while and am getting back into it. I googled everywhere looking for the “new””new” blogger instructions to minima. FINALLY found it here. I have a lot more work to go – but thanks!!!

  2. Used your instructions to try to get my minima stretch back… not even sure how I lost it:(

I was able to get the minima, but I did not see an option for the stretch?? Do you have any ideas?

    Thank you!

  3. I’ve been trying to get my Minima back for a day now. This looks to be so simple, But I can’t get past step 2. When I click the gear, I don’t have the “Old Blogger Interface” on the pull down menu. I’d really appreciate any help you can give me!

    • Holly, thanks for your comment! I just tried it and it is not there anymore:( Blogger must have just updated this in the past few weeks! I will do some research and see if there is any way to get the minima template back with the new blogger updates. I”ll keep you posted:) —Becky

    • Hi Brittany, as long as you have that background code on your blog it will always stay on your blog. If you want a new background just erase the code and update the code with the new background code:) Hope this helps!

  4. Hi! Because the old blogger interface no longer exist…I have no clue where Minima is or how to edit it. Where and how do I edit it? I need to have someone teach me step by step, and so far no one can help me. Please help!

    • Caitlin, blogger has changed things and made it to where we cannot change our templates back to minima…bummer! We will continue to do research and let you know if we figure a way around it!! —Becky

  5. Hi!

I am having difficulty removing a background I applied from your website so that I can use one of your templates. I uploaded the background using an html widget on the layout page of blogger, and now the widget isn’t there for me to remove the code and my blog is attempting to show both the template and the background (they really clash)! Any suggestions?

  6. What option do I have to incorporate a nice blog design onto my blogeer now that I cannot change the templates back to Minima? I have been trying to do this for days and I am glad I came across your notice that this tutorial (and apparently every other tutorial I have tried) will not work. What can I do? Help!! I love your stuff…

    • Angelique, I’m sorry you have having problems with the tutorials. Blogger changed the templates so we are not able to get the minima template back. The best thing is to change your template to picture window or simple then you can add one of our backgrounds to your blog….hope this helps! —Becky
